Today we all learned a couple of things about being bakers. We had some messy fun with flour and made our own bread. It was a blast! The kids all came into the room and watched as the monitors explained how to make the bread. For every step of the process we asked for volunteers to help us prepare the dough. This was very funny because to be selected you had to do a task the best out of the class. For example saying hello in frog language or making the best pig face. If someone volunteered though they had to make up a special chef name involving food. We had some great names such as banana, macroons, or pizza face. There were five ingredients: flour, yeast, salt, water, and the mother dough. For each part we had the students help prepare the dough as pouring the bags of flour in or mixing the yeast with warm water. After making the dough we had to let it rise for an hour so we went to breakfast and let the yeast do its job. When we came back each kid was given two pieces of dough to make their own personal loaf of bread with. It was really neat to see what they would come up with and they deffinately used their imaginations! We saw everything from fruit bowls to rocket ships. After they were finished with their loafs we set them on a tray to rise some more and the kids finished their paper mache planets.
Remember tomorrow is the last day of camp for those not continuing the camp in August and we have a special show we will be preparing ;).
